Monday May 19th at Duke

Went back to Duke on Monday for a 7:30am appointment for blood work.

Met with Madalyn, the lady over the clinical trial, to go over more information about the trial, after which Clayton decided to sign on to do the trial.

9:00am he was injected with fluid for an MRI. He then went to Dr. Brizel’s office to meet with him and Madalyn and to draw more blood.

Appointment with Dr. Ready who’s staff drew even more blood and checked his blood pressure, weight and height. After a total of 1½ hours of waiting between these procedures, he finally saw the doctor. They went over all the drugs he would be taking during his treatment and the schedule for the treatments. They also discussed four drugs that he would be taking that would cause nausea.

Met with the Nutritionist who told him with his current size and physical condition he should eat everything he wanted at this time. During and after treatments they suggested high protein and high carb foods. When he gets to the point of not feeling like eating, he should drink a nutrition drink such as Boost, Ensure, or Carnation instant breakfast. They told him the Carnation was the best nutritionally and if he was unable to eat at all he would need to drink five of these a day.

Came home to bale hay that was cut at the farm. The baler broke right after starting and it was late and well past dark before it was all up. A special thanks to Geno, Derek, Greg, Jennifer, James, Homer, Christopher, Gary, Jeremy and Steve for all the help.
