Just a note to let everyone know what’s going on with my treatment. I went to Duke on Wednesday and met with my Dr.s.
9:00am I met with Dr. Thenover and my blood work was a little off. Not bad though, so we talked about backing off some of my pain pills. So I’m starting Thursday on cutting back on them.
Then at 10:30 I met with Dr Brizel’s staff and then him. Over all my appointment went well. But he had me get some more blood taken he wanted to check my Thyroid. Then he told me I have to gain some weight. We talked about my weight for along time.
I had an Ultra Sound done at noon and we came home.
By the time I got home, Tim part of Dr. Brizel’s staff, had called. Then blood work they took showed my Thyroid was low. So he called me in some medicine and I started it on Thursday.
Still no sign of cancer but still healing up. I go back in four weeks and if I have healed up enough I will have a pet scan done the following week.
Let’s talk Golf. What a great turn out for that, it was great to see so many people. I think everybody had a good time. We had a lot of people stay for the night auctions. I really enjoyed myself.
May God bless everyone of you as much as he has blessed me, thank you.
Clayton Abernathy
Bless your heart! You sure have had your share of trips to Durham! Good news so frequently from you certainly sounds like those trips are very worth while! I’m sure everyone had a good time at the golf tourny; probably the ONLY day this summer that we would agree, “it’s good to have NO RAIN!” Keep up your good work, especially as you decrease the pain meds. I’ll be thinking of you and praying often that this transition goes well. Love to everyone. Connie

Just wanted to let you know we are still thinking of you and praying for you everyday. You know, anytime, we are just a phone call away. It was so good to see you at the golf tournament! We had a great time. Well, it’s tennis season again for Jessica and Erin. I hope we get to see you at the big N-C vs BHHS match in a few weeks. Of course, I’m sure we’ll see you before then. Hang in there brotha! We love you.

The recovery process is moving a little slower for you than I know you thought. But, you have been through tremendous trama to your body. One baby step at a time…you will make a full recovery! Not a day goes by that someone does not ask me about you and always finish with, I’m praying for him, Paege and Jessica. Those prayers and well wishes are not going unheard.
With so many people in your corner there is no way you won’t feel like yourself again. I know you are trying to eat more solids and that alone will give you strength to push forward. The meds were needed to give you comfort so your body could heal and once you remove their effects you will feel better.
You will push yourself to get stronger and God will give you the ammunition needed! I know you have not waivered from “faith” since this began and so many family, friends and such an unknown support base for you have prayed that each day is brighter.
We will continue helping in anyway we can and will be always thankful to our God for healing and returning you to us.
Until then, hugs and love…

I am going to call in a new prescription for you to help with the transition off the pain meds tomorrow.
take 5000 mg of banana split every 4 hours or as needed for pain (not the chincy grocery store kind either, get the good stuff from someplace like DairyHall)
Follow these instructions to the letter, and you’ll do just fine. Love ya, Pete

Hey Son!!!
I am pleased to hear that there is still no signs of cancer and you are on the road of recovery. I never had any doubts you would pull through this because I have personally witnessed many of your comebacks when the odds where not in your favor. Leelee and I will keep on praying and thinking positive for you. By the way, I had a great time at the golf event, got see many old friends and did not injury myself or others while playing. Love you man! Steve

Hey Clayton,
This journey is such a long one for you but you are never alone, God has promised that. Keep your chin up and keep refocusing. Stick to your game plan by listening to your doctors, letting your family and friends support you through prayers, and most of all by growing in faith and speaking to God. Talk to him now, He is walking with you on your journey. He will never leave you! I pray for you to be able to rest at night, to shake this cold, to desire solid foods, and for God to place His healing hands on you. God bless you and your family. I love you little brother!!!

Hey brotha’,
We like Pete’s idea, we might try that too! We agree with Steve also, it was good to see old friends together in one place at the same time. And because it was for you guys and Howard, we’d do it all over again and again! Keep getting better, you are an inspiration to us and we’re with you all the way. We love you guys very much.
Peace,
Derek and Michelle
